In some cases it is a life saver! The first example that comes to mind is the Corona Virus lock-down with employees being sent home from work, many temporarily laid off, and the lucky ones got to work from home for flexible companies scrambling to keep afloat.
The really fortunate ones were those who were already established in their home-business consulting practice; they simply kept calm and carried on. Business as usual. The “bunny slipper commute” for EMF consultants was never more pleasant. Add to that, while we are on the topic of saving lives, it was a pleasure to be of service in such a much needed time.
Moreover, working from home is an every day life saver, in every sense of the word, for electrosensitive people for whom it is impossible to work in a typical high-tech work environment. AND, when you consider the firsthand experience of that, who could be better suited to knowledgeable consulting on the issues surrounding EMF exposure and the solutions for reducing it!
So, it is not surprising that EMF Phone Consulting is growing as a service by service providers who design businesses with these kinds of perks in mind, but it is also growing because of the customer demand for phone consultants increases as EMF awareness expands in the general population. It is no accident that the more the Corona Virus news grows, the more the public has become interested in ways to boost their immune systems and that is when the information on EMF protection becomes a real attention getter.
STEP 1 – How to Get Clients
Once you place your listing in the EMF Professional Directory, clients find you. This is the most widely visited online directory for EMF Consultants of all specialties so it is a great place to begin. Thousands of visitor a day comb through that directory, and if they are seeking a phone consultation your location really does not matter; its what you say in your directory listing that will invite them to contact you. Of course there are numerous other directories that you can list your EMF Phone Consultation services in, and many of them will likely already be known to you since your EMF consulting will be based on your former experience or education. What’s your background? List your EMF phone consultation services in your professional magazines or newsletters. Every occupation is related to EMF protection in some way or another, especially in today’s high tech world.
With the EMF Professional Directory, all you need is a listing describing what EMF Specialties you offer and email address. You don’t even need a website, although if you are planning to become a super successful EMF Consultant you might want one at some point. But for starters, prospective clients find you in the directory and contact you through the directory without knowing your realworld email address until you opt to reply, similar to Craigslist. Expect each phone consultation request to be as different as as each client is, and the client will generally lead the way in that regard. Clients are very specific about what they want help with and what they want to know from you. They will usually tell you that in their first email when they contact you through the EMF Professional Directory.
STEP 2 – How to Get Great Clients
Help your clients to be great clients, and that will help you be a great consultant. When you receive a query through your EMF Professional Directory listing, or any other directory or ad, reply promptly and ask them to describe the issue they would like help with, before setting up a pre-paid (more on that in a moment) appointment time. You can also ask them to email you photos of the situation, or send a sketch of the issue using a floorplan, or a copy of the user manual with technology device specifics that they are concerned about.
Step 4 – How to Schedule
To get started it is not likely that you will need scheduling software since you can simply schedule your phone consultations at a mutually agreed upon time, as clients contact you by email. You can easily manage a few phone consulting appointments a week using a Day Timer, or the calendar incorporated in your Outlook email program. Remember, Outlook Calendar is also a handy place to keep subject, location, time, date (and don’t skimp on) notes for each consultation so you can recall later, when a client requests a followup consultation, the topics you discussed, suggestions made etc. And of course you can note here whatever info will help you at tax time.
Later, when your consultant time constraints are more demanding, or for better record keeping, you’ll want to try out one of the online scheduling services, some with integrated payment systems. If you have a WordPress site check out Bookly, the user friendly, professional looking scheduling app. Bookly is flexible to use and free up to a point and best of all, to keep it simple when you are just getting started, it can still use your PayPal “pay now” button making it easy to transition from your hand-written appointment set-up to using an online scheduling software. That brings us to PayPal, which is probably the easiest way for you to get started accepting payment online, so we’ll talk about it next.
STEP 5 – How to Get (Pre)Paid
Pre-payment for each phone consultation is easy via PayPal.com Clients simply send the payment to your email address via PayPal, so no private info is exchanged. Although there are several other online payment services, such as the up-and-comers Amazon Wallet and Google Pay, and Venmo, which is designed for smart phones, and so naturally popular with smart phone users, PayPal is still the world’s most popular online payment service, and so it is likely to be the most familiar one to your prospective clients. with more than 16 million merchant accounts and a staggering 65 percent market share, PayPal has long dominated the payment processing industry. That is largely due to its ease of set up and user friendly terms.
How to Get a PayPal Online Payment Account? Just log in to PayPal.com and follow the directions; it so intuitive that within minutes you’ll be set up. To be pre-paid for consultants from your prospective clients via PayPal all you need to do is ask clients to remit payment by logging in to PayPal and sending payment to your email address. That deposits your consulting fee directly into your PayPal account. However like all online payment services it does take a teeny slice out of every dollar that a client sends to your PayPal account. That is unless your clients elect to “Send to Friend”, in that case you do not have any transaction fees deducted. How do you withdraw money from your PayPal account? You connect your PayPal account to your realworld bank account and securely transfer the funds.
How do you set your EMF Phone Consultant Rates? You can basically set your own rates; typically $75./hr, $40/half hour (or part thereof). This compares favorably to on-site consultations, which are typically more at $100 – $125./hr. (plus travel miles, optional). Your individual rates can be more or less depending on your background, education, qualifications, EMF specialty etc.

But here’s the catch. People don’t care what you know until they know that you care. Have a hot list ready of support material that you can zip off to them while you have them on the phone. The client that is plagued by headaches from her cellphone but is forced to be on it all day to field customer calls? You’re on it…. you’ve got the 20 Tips for Safer Cellphone Use off to her in an email attachment in mid conversation. The guy who needs to get out of the EMF soup for a weekend? You’re there … a list of EMF free destinations is on its way. The Mom who’s child’s allergies or behavioral problems are suspiciously sounding like electro-hypersensitivity by the minute? You’ve got this, with a referral at your fingertips to the nearest Environmental Healthcare Provider in her city.
You care. So, let it show.
You will be surprised how fast you gain confidence with a little experience.
